Discovery of the Week: Story by ModCloth

It’s been a while, I know but Christmas kind of snuck up me and in all the chaos of holiday prep, I got busy, and sick. I’m still recovering from my stupid cold and I’ve even started back at work so I thought this would be a perfect time to pick up the blog again. It is one of my New Year’s resolutions to be more consistent with “Discovery of the Week.” We’ll see how that goes …

On to the new discovery of the week: Story by ModCloth. ModCloth has a blog!

For those of you who don’t know, ModCloth is a vintage-inspired clothing website. They sell women’s clothes, shoes, accessories, and knickknacks. I absolutely love their products but they do tend to fall on the more expensive side of things. Luckily, ModCloth has a bunch of sales throughout the year, and you can even “like” an item and ask to be notified when it is on sale or back in stock.

Being a member of the site, and signed up for the email list, I wasn’t very surprised to see an email from ModCloth in my inbox recently, advertising new skirts. What did intrigue me was the little icon at the bottom that advertised the ModCloth blog. I immediately had to check it out.

They have several different categories, including but not limited to Fashion, Beauty, and Lifestyle. Each of these has their own subcategories and features. I’m not sure how long they have been up and running but they have a pretty hefty backlog I’m going to be working through so I would guess at least a year, probably two (can’t believe I’ve been missing out that long!). The creative team behind the blog seems to be built from like-minded designers and writers from around the internet. Several even have their own fashion blogs (more stuff for me to discover!).

It is adorable, as all ModCloth things are and it is on WordPress! How wonderful is it that they are right here on WordPress? I love discovering new blogs, and it is even more excellent that it is on a platform I’m already utilizing. This will make it easier for me to stay on top of new posts and such.

Discovery of the Week

So, WordPress. Hi!

I’m new here and while I’ve had a few other blogs before I thought I should see what all the fuss was about. It’s pretty cool. I think I shall attempt to make a small home in this corner of the internet.

I think every good blog should have a theme, a purpose. My other blogs focus largely on entertainment, as that is a huge interest of mine, but I think I will try something new here. The other day someone told me the old cliche, “You learn something new everyday” and that got me thinking. Maybe I should do a “learn something new everyday” kind of blog. Only, I know I won’t post everyday so rather than attempt and fail miserably at that, I’m going to do at least one every week. Some weeks may have more but I will try to commit to doing a write-up once a week at least. I’ll post about new things I discover around the internet or in real life. There are no limits on where discovery may come from so there will be no limits here. They can be new websites, cool facts or maybe even just a new word or quote. Something light and happy, hopefully. And now, for a name …

You probably already guessed it from the title of this post …”Discovery of the Week”

“And, this week’s discovery?” you ask. Well, here it is …

Barnes & Noble has a blog!

I’m not sure exactly how long it has been up but from what I can tell, the first post went up in February 2013. It is also unclear if they have a staff of writers or if it’s a community kind of thing. All I know is there is a blog dedicated to posts (which are thankfully rather short) about book related things! It is pretty epic and I’m currently working my through old posts.

Well, that’s it for this week. Thanks for stopping by and I’ll see you soon!
